WAPF Calendar 2008

Inverness, CA: WAPF-SF Farm Tour at Drakes Bay Family Farm.
On the tour, Kevin Lunny will share the history of food production on
the Point Reyes Peninsula, his family's history, the shellfish farm
history, his hatchery process, his growing process, the interaction
between shellfish and the environment, our local food system, etc. as
well as open discussion time. The tour will be one hour. Drakes Bay
Farm will offer our group samples of their half shell oysters! They
will also have their products available at the farm store for sale.

San Francisco, CA: WAPF May Potluck. Nan Wishner, Chair of
the City of Albany Integrated Pest Management Task Force, was one of
the first to learn about aerial pesticide spraying for the light brown
apple moth (LBAM) coming to the Bay Area in summer 2008. She has been
at the center of Bay Area efforts to educate the public and local governments
and support legislative and legal opposition to the spraying and to
foster reforms in state and federal pest management strategies. For

Back by popular demand a 3 hour class on wild edilbes; where to find
them, how to prepare them and more! Join herbalist, wildcrafter and
whole food enthusiast Linda Conroy for this fun and inspiring program.
Participants will be treated to tips from Linda's years of experience
incorporating wild edibles into her diet as well as
feeding others through the decade long project: Wild Eats; a Wild and
Whole Foods Community Meal. This project has inspired people across
the country to increase the nutrient density of their food by incorporating
tasty wild and whole foods into their daily life. We will make and sample
a variety of whole and wild food snacks including kelp cookies, rosehip
soda, nettle pesto dip, roasted burdock "coffee" and much
more!! We will examine the nutritional value of wild edibles as well
as food preparation techniques that increase their nutrient density.
You will leave with recipes, a full belly and a whole lot of inspiration!

Alike. Learn to promote health through these time honored food preservation
practices.
Fermented foods are made by a technique that relies on the breakdown
of
carbohydrates and proteins. When we combine herbs with fermented foods
we increase their healing potential. The results are delicious food
that is beneficial to
overall health. Join herbalist and whole food enthusiast Linda Conroy
as we learn
hands on how to make a wide variety of fermented food as well as beverages.
We will make and/or sample cultured herb butter, fermented vegetables
(i.e. sauerkraut, kimchee, pickles, carrots), fermented fruit, lacto-fermented
“healthy” herbal soda, home made miso, yogurt, kefir and
more!! We will learn about and sample sour dough crafted from grapes
grown in Linda’s own garden. You will leave with recipes and inspired

Seattle, WA: Home Cheese Making All Day Class. Join home cheese
maker Linda Conroy for this fun and inspring program. This hands on
class will show you how easy it is to make cheese in your own kitchen.
We will create and sample a wide variety of cheese that can be cultivated
at home including: Paneer (an East Indian staple), basic farm cheese
(a hard cheese historically created on the small family farm), Chevre
(a soft spread able goat cheese), Mozzarella, Feta and Gouda. After
learning to make kefir, we will transform this fermented milk beverage
into soft spread able cheese and a condiment that can be used in place
of sour cream. You’ll also learn some cooking ideas for whey,
an abundant by product of cheese making. Participants can build on this
introduction to create many varieties of cheese at home. Includes instruction,
inspiration, samples, cheese to take home, recipes, a cheese culture
to get you
started. This workshop is lead by home cheese maker Linda Conroy, who
has been making cheese in her own kitchen for over a decade with raw,

Program. This apprenticeship is an opportunity for women to connect

allies. Participants will have the opportunity to experience living

daily life. We will create a community of women that encourage, inspire
and challenge each other to look to the earth mother and plant sisters

Swiss Native Judy Mudrak is organizing a third annual two-week trip
to Switzerland for 12-20 healthy interested members of the WAPF. Come
see the cows, goats and sheep, meet the mountain farmers! Watch the
modern/primitive Alpine cheese making and wood-wheel butter making--dying
arts! Speak to a mountain bee farmer, see heirloom animals, attend a
Swiss festival, ride the route of the Glacier Express! Historical 'hands
on' make-and-bake rye sourdough bread, herbalist guided Alpine plant
walk with herbal salve making, splendid mountain views and more! Visit
various regions including the Loetschental where Dr. Price did his research.
If you love to see and learn, please sign up as soon as possible. The
tour is for 2 weeks and the price is 1750.00 dollars inland fees only.
That includes overnight stays, breakfast, scheduled tours with midday
meals.
