The Marriott Westfields Hotel no longer has any room available for Friday or Saturday night. We have secured an additional hotel. The Residence Inn Dulles Airport is just 2 miles from the conference hotel. We have made provisions for complimentary shuttle service to and from The Westfields Marriott and The Residence Inn. Other Information

Childcare

The Wise Traditions Conference is pleased to be able to provide free child care again for this year’s meeting. The childcare area for children ages 0 - 3 is a room on the main level of the hotel (very close to the meeting spaces and exhibit areas). There will be at least 2 adults on duty at all times. We can provide care for infant through age 12 (and will make exceptions for older children on an individual basis). The childcare area for children ages 3 and up is located on the lower level of the hotel. The room has its own bathroom, access to the outside, and kitchen. There will be no snacks or meals provided so parents will need to be responsible for this. We will be offering a Weston A. Price friendly bag lunch for purchase at the event for a fee of $5. The activities for the children will be based on the age of those in the room (see Children's Activities schedule in progress, below). This year, a new program is being designed to stimulate and educate the children aged 3 and older. Childcare starts about 30 minutes prior to the morning events and ends within 30 minutes of the sessions for that day. Just added! We will be offering childcare during the Friday Dinner & Saturday Banquet for a fee of $5.00 per child, per evening. No food will be provided. Free play and a movie each night are scheduled.

Parents are asked to complete a short questionnaire about their children when they are dropped off. At that time, the parent will provide the name(s) of those permitted to pick-up the child(ren). Parents are also required to sign in and out. Please note you may do so as many times per day as you wish. We also request that you provide a cell phone number or a list of the sessions you plan to attend that day in case of an emergency. A signed liability waiver is also required.

Children's Activities

Friday
-Morning Activity: Outdoor Adventure (led by April Kocis and Jai Yeck)
Please come join us for a morning of outdoor adventure. Explore the wilderness just outside the hotel doors. Discover some of the animals and plants thriving in this urban wilderness. We will quest to find natural mysteries and engage all of our senses. This morning will be filled with games, exploration, pushing our edges of knowledge, primitive living skills, and just plain getting dirty. Come prepared for fun rain or shine.

-Yoga Game (1 hour)
-Afternoon activities: Tree Education (TBD, led by Stacey Fraley)
Tree growth, forest education, and recycling are only a small portion of this afternoon's education. We will also discuss the health benefits of tree products. Join us as the younger students make crafts from recycled and homemade paper. Our older students will be making paper from recycled conference waste. After making nut butter from crispy nuts, our students will snack on celery sticks with nut butter.

Saturday
-Morning Activity: Tea and Cookies from Tree to Table (led by April Kocis and Jai Yeck)
Come learn about nutritious and delicious wild plants that we can enjoy as part of our native diets. We will crack and shell wildcrafted nuts, make raw butter from grassfed Jersey cows, bake nutrient dense cookies, and brew tea from the trees. We will share stories and conversation over our homemade snack of tea and cookies.

-Yoga Game (1 hour)
-Afternoon activities: Bee Education (led by Stacey Fraley)
Join us for an afternoon of of bee education. We will be learning about bee keeping and the healthful benefits of raw honey. Our younger students will be making candles from wax sheets, while our older students will be making candles from wax and molds. Our afternoon snack will feature student-prepared fried bananas with raw honey.

Sunday
-Morning Activity: The Magic of Plants (led by April Kocis and Jai Yeck)
Please join us for a morning of making medicine and herbal cosmetics from wild and cultivated plants. Come handcraft salves and lip balms from solar infused botanical oils, essential oils and beeswax. Let's explore nature's treasure chest of medicinal plants through stories, pictures, and games.

-Yoga Game (1 hour)
-Afternoon activities: Healthy Snacks (led by Stacey Fraley)
Weston A. Price food principles will be our focus for this afternoon. Our students will be brainstorming to apply their food education to "revamp" modern day snacks. Our older students will be creating a snack cookbook, while our younger students will be coloring and assembling one. We will conclude our education with a tasting of healthy snacks, which will include raw milk cheeses, crispy nuts, roasted eggplant dip, cucumber yoghurt dip with veggies, popcorn and fermented beverages. Students will actually assist in making some of these items.

Movement Classes

Start your conference days with movement in the Adams Room. Kim Thompson
leads morning Yoga, Healthy Back, and Bones for Life sessions. Breathe, stretch, revitalize. Move your body and clear your head for a day of learning. All levels welcome. Kim is a dynamic and insightful movement teacher whose training includes multiple styles of Yoga, Feldenkrais, Bones for Life, martial arts and Sounder Sleep.
