Harvard Law School Food Law Society Hosting a Raw Milk Debate
At one time, everyone drank raw milk. But with the invention of pasteurization and its alleged safety benefits, consumption of raw milk in this country almost completely disappeared. In fact, in some states it is illegal to sell raw milk. But a growing segment of the population is clamoring for increased access to raw milk, citing its nutritional benefits and recently discovered inbuilt safety mechanisms. Opponents are skeptical of such nutritional claims and believe the safety risks of unpasteurized milk are simply too high.
Join the Food Law Society as we present a debate covering the legal, health, and nutritional merits of raw milk. The participants are:
Fred Pritzker, Pritzker & Olson Law Firm
Dr. Heidi Kassenborg, Director, Dairy & Food Inspection Division, Minnesota Department of Agriculture
vs.
Sally Fallon Morell, President, Weston A. Price Foundation
David Gumpert, Author, The Raw Milk Revolution
When: Thursday, February 16, 2012, 7:15 pm – 8:45 pm
Where: Harvard Law School, Langdell South Classroom.
Harvard Law School’s street address is 1563 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02138.

I drink raw milk everyday. It is a crime that the corporate-government big farm wants to take my right away from consuming this healthy drink. What about coke and pepsi? Which is really more harmful?

I think that pasturization may be one of the reasons why so many people are becoming lactose intolerant in our country.

In NH we have raw milk and soon, raw yogurt, cheese, butter and kefir. We are healthy, strong and we will LIVE FREE OR DIE.

i just don’t understand why we can’t get some regulations going to allow raw milk for those of us who want it (and won’t consume dairy otherwise), which could open the doors to spread information about the virtues of raw dairy to those who don’t know otherwise.
why not just include a label, and heck maybe some disclaimer if that’s what it takes. i mean you can go out and eat a rare steak or eggs over easy, or obviously buy raw meat and eggs from the store, and there is just a little note about eating foods not cooked to a certain temperature, bla bla bla. why not just do that with raw milk, but also setting high standards of cleanliness in milking parlors and proper diet of animals, etc to further set raw, cream top grass fed dairy apart from huge CAFO GMO corn/soy fed hormone pumped milk. i dream of the day, for everyone to enjoy the best dairy productssmilies/grin.gif

re:raw milk
My family has consumed raw milk for many years until the last 3 when the gov’t started pursuing the farmers who sell raw milk. I don’t understand why it is okay for people to buy cigarettes, alcohol, tainted and diseased meat, vegetables that have caused salmonella and ecoli and have killed many people. Even our water supposedly government regulated has killed people here in the Milwaukee area. Raw milk affects so few of us. The farmers who provide it are very conscientious and operate very clean hygienic dairies for the most part. It would be so interesting to see what might happen if the business moguls would stop interfering and manipulating politicians with their donations to campaigns and allow them to make smart choices rather than choosing between money and common sense. I am so tired of money being what drives our country when does it just become the right thing to do. Sad for the state of affairs, Dawn Imes in Pewaukee Wisconsin.

Raw Milk Drinker
Since I rediscovered raw milk, my allergies have subsided and it keeps any heartburn at bay when I eat the wrong things. I try to follow the “eat 51% raw” rule but it is getting harder to do. Seems the government wants us to stay sick and be under their thumb and the control of Big GMO Ag, and Big DRUG Pharma.
