We have included below a eulogy by Chef John Umlauf:
Chef Bank Szerenyi
Farewell, great warrior. Your passion for great food was exceeded only by your deep heart and respect for the people around you. Coming into your presence was always a moment of pause, to put things into focus, unhurried… even when events and circumstances insisted on racing ahead.
We stood together on the podium as you proclaimed the value of real, traditional food. “Carry the torch”, you exclaimed. We’ll do that for sure! And what a fitting venue for your last banquet, a sign that you are on your way… toward a mission that has fewer boundaries and many more horizons. May the peace that you always gave, remain with you.
Chef John Umlauf
