Now that both the House and the Senate have passed their versions of the Farm Bill, members of both chambers will meet in conference committee to determine which pieces of which bill will make it into the final version.
There are many problems with both versions of the Farm Bill, but the House version contains a particularly dangerous provision that we urge Congress not to include: the King Amendment that strips local control of agriculture and food. This provision would prohibit any state or local government from adopting any standard or condition on the production or manufacture of any agricultural product that is sold in interstate commerce.
The House Farm Bill thus mandates a one-size-fits-all approach for environmental standards, labor rights, animal welfare, and community safety. It would eliminate laws adopted by local communities to address problems like Dicamba pesticide drift, to set standards for food quality and animal welfare (such as cage-free eggs or crate-free veal), and even laws that simply allow consumers to know whether their purchases support their local farming communities.
State and local laws that would be negated include:
- Labeling and sale criteria for maple syrup, farm raised fish, and many more.
- Farm production standards related to the transport of commodities and livestock, farm labor safeguards, and agriculture chemical use standards.
- Farmer and rural community protections like bans on importing diseased product (firewood, bee colonies, etc.), fertilizer application standards, and fencing requirements.
- Consumer protection such as BPA-free baby food containers, perishable food labeling, and labeling of consumer chemicals known to cause birth defects.
The Senate version did not include this provision, and we need to keep it out of the final Farm Bill!
Take Action
You can find out who represents you by going to www.house.gov & www.senate.gov or by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
Please call your Representative and both your Senators. And check out the list of conference committee members below, to see if any of your legislators are on the conference committee. If they are, prioritize that call first – and ask your family and friends in the district to call also!
Even if none of your legislators sit on the conference committee, please call them – you can ask them to work with their colleagues who are on the committee to take out the King Amendment.
When you call your Representative and Senators, be sure to identify yourself as a constituent. You can talk to the staffer who picks up the phone and simply say that you urge your legislator to support local control and keep the King Amendment out of the final Farm Bill. For an even greater impact, as to speak to the staffer who is handling the Farm Bill, and talk with them briefly about why you oppose the King amendment.

Thanks for this Alert ___________! (Who wrote this?) –
Interesting to know that 242 years after the “Declaration of Independence” the present day “U.S. House of Representatives” produces “The King Amendment” under a label that appears reminiscent of the British (Monarchy) Kings!
Why these so-called “representatives” haven’t already been duly charged with “high crimes” that are backed by the severest Lawful penalties must be a reflection of a tremendous loss of true American vigilance. Or so it seems. …
“We should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was ‘legal'”[1] Not only did Hitler and the Nazi party commit atrocities “legally” the whole throne of power was modeled after that of the President of the United States.[2] What does this tell us today? One thing is that “hacking at the branches of evil”[3] will never ever reach to depth of the roots. The “root” in this instance of the current “House” is one of either tremendous ignorance of the Organic Laws of the United States of America (of which the “Declaration of Independence” is the first) -OR- it is one of ill intent against the unalienable freedoms of the American people.
Either way this can be looked at (or IMO both of these characterizations of ignorance and intent are applicable) eventually (I trust) we will conclude that Americans need to be “enlightened” (is there any virtue with the “Statue of Liberty” aka: “Liberty Enlightening The World”?)[4]. We need to be thoroughly enlightened as to ‘Who’ we are as Americans, ‘What’ are true form of government is, ‘Where’ our Rights come from and ‘Why’ it is imperative that we “give a little bit”, “be a little willing” to reconsider our beliefs about “Who, What and Where” to allow for some crucial thought corrections[5] so that certain transformations can occur both within us and through us giving us abilities to hold “chains”[6] around the government (beast).
However – if anyone is willing to look into “What” they will discover that government is under a Lawful constitutional limitation in regards to the extent of its jurisdiction. It can only control what it owns. It can only act upon its proprietary jurisdiction. And it will act upon any voluntary submission into its jurisdiction even if the actual proprietary jurisdiction doesn’t exist! This is ‘Why’ we need our enlightenment. We need to know what these Lawful limits are so we know where to step in with or “chains”! The only way I know of to get this particular enlightenment is through a course of study on the Organic Laws. Fortunately that course has been very well written by Dr. Ed Rivera of the Organic Laws Institute.[7]
Be a “little willing” to at least take a “peek” as to why we must gain a fundamental understanding of the four Organic Laws as a whole set of four “pillars” in order to see the limited position where the “Constitution of September 17, 1787” stands in relation to the other three pillars. That insight is not possible by believing what government has been saying “the Constitution” says. The danger is the same danger that was revealed in the Nuremberg Trial.
Looking forward to knowing who the author of this article was!
