The Colorado Board of Health voted 5-3 in favor of keeping the raw milk cow share program legal!
It was a fascinating, excruciating process to watch – four hours of deliberations and testimony. Sitting through the lies on the part of our opponents was the hardest thing I’ve had to do all year.
It came down to a realization on their part that science has not satisfactorily proven that raw milk is harmful, and that this was actually an issue of freedom of choice rather than raw vs. pasteurized milk. It was the women who seemed to get that and then verbalized it so that the board swayed in that direction.
The president of the board (who voted against us) advised us to get Colorado legislators lined up to draw up legislation to secure the legality of raw milk. He feels that the cow share program is just a legal fiction for the sale of raw milk and won’t hold permanently.
The turnout to the public hearing on raw milk cow share program was the largest ever on a health issue in Colorado history. Over 300 people turned out. Fantastic!!!
We wish to congratulate and thank the many folks who helped make this important victory possible:
David Lynch of Guidestone Farm, who was the originator of the cow share concept
James Dean, our lawyer who was absolutely invaluable in making this happen
All the Colorado chapters and members of the Weston A. Price Foundation, who worked tirelessly to publicize this situation and get folks to the public hearing
And, to all of you not mentioned above who provided such wonderful support
THANK YOU, THANK, THANK YOU.
Gotta go pop the champagne!
